ACHIEVEMENTS
-- As a fakir, I competed in Cups 7
and 8 of The Strip and loved every second of it despite coming
in a close second each time. I also had a blast in Cups 9 and 10
as the Gamemaster. Some may think I went a bit overboard with
the PowerUps, but what can I say, it was fun as hell.
-- My biggest accomplishment in the
faking world though is scottss.com and how it’s actually lasted
9 years.
THE
INTERVIEW
CelebFakirs.com: Why the
Faking Alias? Scottss: It’s not actually an alias. Back in the day when I
purchased the domain name for my site, I had no idea what to call it, so
I just went with my own name and initials. When it came time to choose
an alias to label my fakes with, I just stuck with it.
CelebFakirs.com: How did you find out
celebrity faking existed? Scottss: I originally created a fan page in college called
Scott’s Courteney Cox Fan Page. I did it to learn html for fun, and
chose her because I was a big fan of Friends, and Jennifer Aniston
already had too many fan pages. My site became the main Unofficial site
for her fans and I found out about fakes when I kept getting the same
pic emailed to me over and over again to post on the site. It was a b/w
blatant fake. That single pic resulted in my scouring the net to find
all fakes I could find of Courteney to post on my site in a new fake
section. I figured I might as well make a section just for fakes so that
people would know that’s what they were.
CelebFakirs.com: What was the first fake
you ever saw and who faked it? Scottss: That Courteney Cox fake was the first I ever saw. To
this day, I have no idea who actually faked it. It’s number 225 in her
gallery on my site, page 15.
CelebFakirs.com: What made you get into
faking? Scottss: Despite viewing and archiving thousands of pics for
years, I wasn’t actually inspired to try my own hand at it until around
2001 or 2002. I was inspired by the leap in quality I’d seen in fakes
done by Sank. Sankology I think it was called, was the first tutorial I
ever really studied. Sank was ahead of his time and left the faking
world early, but certainly not without leaving his mark first. Some of
his work still stands up to today’s standards in my opinion.
CelebFakirs.com: Who was the lucky celeb
who was first faked by yourself? Scottss: My first ever fake was actually a CO of Reese
Witherspoon. It can be found in her gallery labeled as number 7, on page
5. I made some fakes of friends before that for fun, but that Reese is
the first I actually did of a celebrity.
CelebFakirs.com: When did you do your first
fake? Scottss: Around 2001 I think, but I didn’t actually do it with
any serious effort until The Strip’s 7th Cup as a Dark Angel. Fubar
recruited me and it was a great time.
CelebFakirs.com: Who has been the biggest
influence in your faking career to date? Scottss: MrOwl hands down. He was one of my Dark Angel teammates
and I took great advantage of that opportunity. He was immensely helpful
teaching me techniques and to this day I love all of his works and all
the elements and inspiration that go into them. Every fake I make, I
hear Hoot’s voice in my head telling me to reduce the cyans.
CelebFakirs.com: Who would you consider to
be the best fakir around at the moment? Scottss: I’d have to say Proto. Did you ever see that episode of
Futurama where Fry struck a deal with the robot devil and became the
best Holophonist ever? I think Proto spun the same wheel and currently
has Robot Devil hands.
CelebFakirs.com: Who would you consider to
be the best fakir of all time? Scottss: That’s a tougher question. Fakirs today have such better
material to work with than they ever have before, and with each version
of Photoshop and each plug-in released, there’s so much more one can do.
In my mind, I’d say it’s between Sank and Vincent. Both left at the top
of their respective games, and both will never be forgotten.
CelebFakirs.com: And for the future, do you
see any fresh faces that you think will go on to be the best one day? Scottss: After taking the last year or so off and away from the
faking community, I don’t think I’m in the position to provide an
educated answer to that. Does Splanky still count as a fresh face?
CelebFakirs.com: What do you consider to be
your best fake to date? Scottss: The fake I’m most proud of continues to be my Life of an
Artist entry in Cup 8 of Sarah Michelle Gellar. I worked on it from Day
1 of the competition and it took weeks to complete.
CelebFakirs.com: What has
been the highlight of your career so far? Scottss: The Strip’s Cups were the most fun I’ve had in the
faking community, both as a competitor and a volunteer behind the
scenes. If I was to narrow that down further, I’d say Cup 7 and it’s
infamous BWOTE I think it was called. BWOTE was just the greatest. It
still makes me laugh thinking about it.
CelebFakirs.com: If you could marry any
celeb who would it be? Scottss: If I’d been asked this in 1997, it would be Courteney
Cox without a second thought. Asking me this now, I don’t wish to marry
any celebrity. I’d love to go out to dinner and dancing with Morgan Webb
though.
CelebFakirs.com: And who would be your bit
on the side? Scottss: Since I’ve chosen Morgan Webb, I guess I might as well
make a buffet out of G4 and include Layla Kayleigh and Olivia Munn on
the side. Do I watch too much G4? You tell me…
CelebFakirs.com: Do you have funny stories
to tell us? Scottss: If I could cut and paste Honouring Codec for you, I
would. However, Ichbin2 owns the rights.
CelebFakirs.com: Where do you see yourself
in 5, 10 years time? Scottss: Not in the faking world, but I’ve been wrong before.
CelebFakirs.com: Where do you see the
faking world being in 5, 10 years time? Scottss: Probably still underground in a forum setting, but I
think there is potential in the Blog setting to further grow the
community. I also think at some point fakirs will only be using HS and
BS as inspiration and guides. What I’d really love to see is some
ex-employee of Square or Weta Digital get into faking and render some
amazing photo-realistic fakes.
CelebFakirs.com: Is there anything that you
would like to add? Scottss: Thank you to all the artists over the years who have
created fakes that ended up in my archive. It’s been a pleasure helping,
watching, and participating in the faking community as it’s grown into
what it is today. To look at any of my galleries from oldest fakes to
most recent shows how far the hobby has progressed. And too have seen
over a hundred thousand fakes and still be impressed by new works says
something about the creativity of those in the faking world.
CelebFakirs.com: Finally.... Celebrity
fakes, art or porn? Scottss: Fakes should fulfill fantasies and thus should be a
varying degree of both, depending on the particular fantasy in the
mind’s eye of the artist wielding the digital brush. Usually, though not
always, the more layers added, the more it approaches art.
