THE
INTERVIEW
CelebFakirs.com:
How did you find out celebrity faking existed? DrHeinz: When i had to retire from my job due to a serious
illness a few years back, I was pretty much chained to my house during
my recovery period. I spent a lot of time on the internet and since i am
a movie (and celeb-)lover I pretty soon stumbled upon some faked images
of celebs too. Although I might have seen fakes before they never really
registered until then.
CelebFakirs.com: What was the first fake
you ever saw and who faked it? DrHeinz: The one that I first caught my interest was from Yovo I
think. So I was already pretty much spoilt from day 1, and started
collecting the sweet stuff.
CelebFakirs.com:
What made you get into faking? DrHeinz: Lots of free time on my hands, and I was intrigued to
find out how it was done. I think it was August 2003 when I registered
on some (obscure) german fake archive board that mainly focussed on
sharing good web finds, but still I made my first steps at actually
faking myself there. Then I registered on the French FFF which is
fakir's board rather than an archive. That's where i found out how great
it can be to be part of a faking community, where both fakirs and
collectors meet and share their knowledge, resources and feedback. It
stimulated me and made me improve fast. So when i registered on the
strip in January 2004 i won the Tourist Cup with the first fake i posted
there, much to my own surprise. I didn't even use Adobe Photoshop back
then, but Serif Photoplus. Shortly after i was asked to join a team for
the Great Fake Cup and switched to Photoshop.
CelebFakirs.com:
Who was the lucky celeb who was first faked by
yourself? When did you do you're first fake?: DrHeinz: The Queen of England. Oh wait, that was a bit later.
Besides I don't want to scare away your customers.
I trashed my earliest doodles so i cant remember exactly. but this one
is pretty ancient: Ashley judd, September 2003,
CelebFakirs.com:
Who has been the biggest influence in you're
faking career to date? DrHeinz: Hard to say. I think I am am more of a technical fakir,
rather than an arty-farty or otherwise creative one. So i wasn't really
influenced by styles or designs. I think the the ones who taught me the
most tricks of the trade though, through tutorials or one-on-one
sessions were Vincent, MrOwl75, Doc Fakenhouser, TFP, and Proto. Some of
them still do today. But really, in a faking community you learn stuff
from almost anyone active, both fakirs and collectors. The contributions
of the latter are underrated, not in the last place by themselves.
CelebFakirs.com:
Who would you consider to be the best fakir around
at the moment? DrHeinz: I don't know if there is such a thing as "the best"
fakir. All have different fortes and it highly depends what style they
use and how much i like hat style.
If we redefine your question to "What current fakir's work do you admire
most?" my answer would be Proto.
CelebFakirs.com:
Who would you consider to be the best fakir of all
time? DrHeinz: "What all-time-fakir's work do you admire most?" Vincent
for faked images and doc fakenhouser for faked movies. Same branch, two
entirely different disciplines.
CelebFakirs.com:
And for the future, do you see any fresh faces
that you think will go on to be the best one day? DrHeinz: There are a lot of young talents around for sure.
CelebFakirs.com:
What was you're best fake ever? DrHeinz: The one that I am going to make some day. So here's my
most recent one of which I think is not that bad while we wait for it.
CelebFakirs.com:
What has been the highlight of you're career so
far? DrHeinz: Founding of New Fake City.
CelebFakirs.com: Why the alter-ego choice? DrHeinz: I don't want people to find out that I am actually the
president of the Dutch Central Bank. Anonymity.
CelebFakirs.com: If you could marry any
celeb who would it be? DrHeinz: Hehe, none of them, I'm already hooked up. But I have my
favorites if that's what you mean, all for different reasons. Charlize
Theron, Angelina Jolie, Aishwarya Rai, Brittany Murphy, and our Dutch
pride: Famke Janssen.
CelebFakirs.com:
And who would be you're bit on the side? DrHeinz: Those would be any of the above. Which immediately
uncovers an important reason for my anonymity.
CelebFakirs.com:
Do you have funny stories to tell us? DrHeinz: So far I thought the interview was pretty funny already.
There are plenty of funny stories around in this crazy line of hobby
though. You could fill up an entire special section of your website with
them.
CelebFakirs.com:
Where do you see yourself in 5, 10 years time? DrHeinz: Whatever that may be, it's probably not as a fakir.
Although I still love doing it, 5 years is already a pretty long time in
a fakirs life. A bit like dog years. A lot of fakirs stop due to changes
in real life, and that might very well be what is going to happen to me
too.
CelebFakirs.com:
where do you see the faking world being in 5, 10
years time? DrHeinz: Since the open communities (fake boards) have taken over
the baton from newsgroups and guilds, faking has taken a flight.
Resource and knowledge that were meticulously kept to oneself or behind
locked doors before, the growing acceptance of criticism, and
competitions that pushed fakirs to raise the bar has triggered that.
With an open structure like that, anything is possible and highly
depends on technological developments. And if yet another genius like
Vincent or doc Fakenhouser emerges... who might very well be amongst us
already.
CelebFakirs.com:
Finally.... Celebrity fakes, art or porn? DrHeinz: Of course it is and always will be porn, cos it's primal
roots are being wank fodder and that sticks. When done skillfully and
with imagination, you actually create something that has an extra
quality which raises it beyond porn, like a joiner can make a Louis XIV
cabinet instead of a chest, but i would be inclined to call that
craftsmanship rather than artistry.
