 The Underworld Story

 The Underworld (or UW for short) was co-founded by Baals Prophet and Wully of Orange with Fubar involved from the start in January 2003. The creation of the Underworld was intended to increase and unite the British faking scene by giving them a home. The forum was mainly successful in achieving that goal. When the forum went live the team consisted of Baal's Prophet and Wully of Orange as admin with Fubar and Kirky as moderators. Shamystic joined the team shortly after.

 The Underworld pioneered the fake school system which taught newbie fakirs how to fake with experienced fakirs taking them step by step as their teachers. Before this the only help available was with tutorials and WIP. The same system is now in use at the Fake Place and Phoenix Fakes.

The Underworld were also the first in the community to use the head-to-head knock-out tournament system which was their main faking event. It had a different name each tournament but the first tournament was called "there can be only one" after the highlander movies which seemed to stick. The Underworld held four of these tournaments. The same type of tournament was later used by Le Grand Chelem.

 The UW being for British fakirs by British fakirs did not stop other nationalities coming to the UW. Some even made The UW forum their home in the faking community. This has been put down to the unique sense of community atmosphere and spirit which was second to none.

 This encouraged the UW administration to go "international" and to make some of the "foreign" fakirs moderators including the long standing Stonewolf (Germany), DrHeinz (Holland) and Kokan (Croatia). However despite this change in direction only British fakirs remained to be appointed admin at the Underworld.

 The loyalty of the mainly British core members was always a strong point of the UW and helped guide it safely through a few sticky patches in its history. This was emphasized by showing loyalty to the forum after internal admin problems and the creation of the phoenix forum "from the ashes of the UW" by some of the Underworlds most loyal members shortly after its closure.

 In the end, the UnderWorld was hacked and had security issues, had ongoing tech problems and was leaking bandwidth. So when the web account expired the admin didn't feel they could spend money on a board that would have needed rebuilding from scratch. Thus The Underworld closed their doors in May 2006.
